One of the World's Most Beautiful Rail Experiences

Sri Lanka's railway network offers travellers a unique opportunity to experience the island's spectacular landscapes from a different perspective. Originally developed during the British colonial era to transport tea and agricultural products, the railway system now provides some of the most scenic train journeys in the world.

From bustling cities and coastal regions to mist-covered mountains and lush tea plantations, travelling by train is not only an affordable way to explore the country but also an unforgettable part of the Sri Lankan experience.

THE HILL COUNTRY JOURNEY

The journey between Kandy, Nuwara Eliya (Nanu Oya), Haputale, and Ella is widely regarded as one of the most scenic railway routes in the world.

Passengers travel through rolling tea plantations, cloud forests, mountain tunnels, waterfalls, and picturesque villages while enjoying breathtaking views of Sri Lanka's central highlands. The slow pace of the train allows visitors to fully appreciate the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

THE ICONIC NINE ARCH BRIDGE

Located near Ella, the Nine Arch Bridge is one of Sri Lanka's most photographed landmarks. Surrounded by dense jungle and tea estates, this impressive colonial-era railway bridge has become a symbol of Sri Lankan travel.

Visitors from around the world gather to watch trains cross the bridge while enjoying the spectacular scenery and peaceful atmosphere of the hill country.

MORE THAN A JOURNEY

Sri Lanka's railway network connects many of the country's most popular destinations, including Colombo, Kandy, Ella, Badulla, Galle, Jaffna, and Trincomalee.

Whether travelling along the coastline, through ancient cities, or across the misty mountains, rail travel offers visitors an authentic glimpse into everyday Sri Lankan life while providing countless opportunities for memorable photographs and cultural experiences.
